March Madness, Amateur Radio Style

The WGD had its own version of March madness with six (6) Hamfest events taking place within the Division.  Beginning in late February Williamson County ARC and the Orange Hamfest kicked off with events held in STX.   Amateurs across the Division were presented fun opportunities at the Elk City Hamfest in Oklahoma and the STX Section Convention held at the Greater Houston Hamfest the first weekend in March.  The OK Section Convention was held in Claremore, hosted by the Green Country Hamfest – while DFW folks were enjoying the Irving Hamfest the weekend of March 10th.  No March could be complete without the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Hamfest in Midland, which celebrated its 57th year and doubled as the WTX Section Convention.

All convention organizers were pleased with the outcome of their events and saw their attendance figures remaining steady or improving in comparison to previous years.  ARRL forums held at the conventions enjoyed robust crowds and a record 32 memberships/renewals were accepted by WGD AD’s for Membership John (AE5B) and Carla (K5RLA) Dyer at the Greater Houston event.   John and Carla are known as the “Dynamic Duo”, for good reason, on the convention circuit.

March finishes off with the Weatherford Hamfest the weekend of March 24th.  After a few weeks of rest and time to cut the grass, everyone puts on their running shoes in preparation of the Spring Belton HamEXPO event on April 14th.  The ARRL will see you there!
