DARC Begins Celebrating

In celebration of the Dallas Amateur Radio Club’s upcoming 100th Anniversary, we are having a kick-off celebration at Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, October 19th, from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, October 20th from 10 AM to 4 PM.

DARC will be setting up a special event station Saturday morning around 8:00 AM on the hill just at the entry from 3939 Valley View Lane to Brookhaven College. Brookhaven has invited us to participate with their Earth Science Fair – Star Lab: Earth, Sun and Moon Show, that will be held in Building H.   We will have our DARC Communications Center set up just outside Building H and be offering tours of our trailer. We will also have a monitor set up of our tent location so visitors to the trailer will be able to see our event station. We’ve invited their students and professors to visit the event station under the tents should they desire. This will be a lot of fun since the college’s science lab and our kickoff event offer an opportunity for visitors to roam around and check out interesting things as well as to involve both Boy and Girl Scouts from the area. Scouts can earn a patch or rocker from attending the Science Fair.  This is also JOTA weekend, so it is a great opportunity for us to participate with Scouts visiting our Communications Center and offering them the opportunity to Get On The Air while letting them know about the DARC.

DARC invites you to join them to visit, break bread with us, and have fun on the air. Our Special Event Station will have a “Get-on-the-Air” radio, and you can experiment sending CW (Morse Code), talking with other hams on HF or on our 2 meter / 70 cm radios.
