Don’t Forget JOTA

You Can Be A Part of the Biggest Scout Event This Weekend!

The 56th Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) will take place this weekend, October 19-20).  JOTA combines the benefits of Scouting with Amateur Radio and annually allows over 700,000 Scouts world-wide to talk with one another.

Full details concerning US operations can be found at: http://www.scouting.org/JOTA.aspx and at http://www.k2bsa.net/jota/ http://www.arrl.org/jamboree-on-the-air-jota

The World Organization of the Scouting Movement has an excellent resource site at http://www.jotajoti2013.tk/   Note:  This is a temporary site since the WOSM JOTA/JOTI site is experiencing difficulties.

West Gulf Division Sections have a number of well organized activities planned.  You may check the list of registered stations at http://www.k2bsa.net/registered-stations/.    Look for stations in your area.  If you’d like to find out what type of help in needed in your Section, contact your Assistant Section Manager for Radio Scouting.  You’ll find their names and email addresses at http://arrlwgd.org/education/scouting/.

After looking at the details offered in the links above, consider getting on the air to provide contacts to Scouts, and/or invite local Scouts and their parents to your shack or, take a radio into the field, at a nearby park or on a campout.  If you were once a Scout, you’ll have a chance to relive the fun and excitement of showing off your hobby to Scouts and giving Scouts an opportunity to talk on the radio, perhaps for the first time in their lives.

When JOTA is over, please take a few moments to provide a brief report on your experience to your Assistant Section Manager for Radio Scouting.
